Schools and employers are recognizing
that online courses can be just as effective or can be more
effective, than classroom courses. That's right the digital classroom is the next
big thing and today it's our big discussion on topic about Sal Khan’s
khanacademy
Really
got the ball rolling back in 2006 when he founded the Khan Academy well if the
image of bricks ivy and a bustling quad come to mind you're on the wrong home
page because this Academy is all online and I must say this school is really-really
cool

so let's know a little bit about Salman and his background

He
grew up in Metairie Louisiana his childhood was a fairly normal his mom raised
him and his siblings as a single mother and she kind of had odd jobs here and
there but Salman and his sister was a really strong student and so she kind of
is a big role model for him. He went to grace King high school and it was
overall a nice place to grow up
Meanwhile
he went on to MIT and then to Harvard Business School right and after that his
first career was he worked in tech
But then he went back to business school and
after business school he found himself as an analyst at an investment firm and
he probably thought, he were gonna stick with that and then something happened………
What is Khan Academy?
Khan
Academy is free non-profit American educational organization founded by Salman
khan in 2008. The main goal behind creating this organization to create an online tool set, that help educate student.
This organization makes short lessons in a video format on its website which
also includes supplementary practical exercise and other material for educator.
And the best part of it is it’s available
for free for users of the website and app
Khan Academy history:
It
was in 2004 when his cousin family had visited up in Boston after Sal’s wedding
and it just came out of conversation that she had just taken a placement exam
after sixth grade. They were tracking her into the slower math track and her
mom didn't go to school in this country.
So he don't think she fully appreciated what
the implications might be for her later on and so he asked his cousin about the
problem it and he they come to conclusion
that he will tutor her on the phone and use the
internet whatever they can do.
And then he started working with her younger
brothers and then word got around the family that free tutoring was happening
and so he found myself working with about 10 15 cousins every day after work on
the phone Instant Messenger and whatever else
After
some time his friend suggest him that he should try YouTube to record some
videos and put them up on, and he immediately thought it was a horrible idea
And he said no YouTube is for cats playing
piano it's not for serious man
But
then after his cousin’s famously said that they like it better on YouTube than
in a person and form here the journey begins….
It was in early 2007 and he
kept making more content and he saw the view count is growing and growing and
then comments got more intense

khan once told in interview that he got this letter from a mother and she said,
both of her sons had a learning disability and this was the only thing that was
allowing them to keep pace with their class
And
he was like wow! You know just putting the stuff out there and there's people
all over the planet that are actually their lives are being changed in some way
and that was the moment there's here
Then
the viewership just kept growing and growing and growing and by 2008-2009 it's
kind of overtook his life.

Gates Foundation has been a major supporter Google at around that same time reached out many other broad
foundation, you know what guys I could go on and on there's been many-many
people to help support the khan’s effort
In
2009 Khan quit his job and he set this up as a not-for-profit hoping that
someone would notice, someone would support this
I think whenever you do anything like that you
start a little optimistic
About nine months went by no one really
supported it we're living off of savings and then in the summer of 2010 all of
a sudden one of the first early supporters sends him a text message for names
and or she says,” I'm at the Aspen ideas
festival Bill Gates is on stage and
from last five minutes talking about
Khan Academy
And so he was
actually running a little summer camp with some middle school students. He
immediately boot the nearest seventh grader off of a computer for some evidence
of this thing
Walter Isaacson the head of the Aspen issued
asking what he's excited about he started talking about Khan Academy and two
weeks later yeah he got a call from Seattle.
It was Bill Gates
his chief of staff and he wanted to meet him
In the same year Google donated $2 million for creating new courses and
translating content into other languages, as part of their Project 10100 program.
Khan academy content is now available full in
almost all language including Hindi

Pixar animation studio is an American computer animation
studio based in Emeryville, California a subsidiary of Walt Disney, In 2015,
Khan Academy teamed up with Pixar to
create a course called Pixar in a Box,
which teaches how skills learned in school help the creators at Pixar

Academy Kids:
In 2018, Khan Academy
created an application called Khan
Academy Kids. It is for young two-year-old to six-year-old children to
learn basic skills before progressing to grade school. application available on play store
In April 2012, the founder and executive director of Khan
Academy, Salman Khan,
was listed among TIME's 100
Most Influential People for 2012. Khan was one of five winners of the
2014 Heinz Award. His award was in the area of
"Human Condition.In 2016, Khan Academy won a shorty Award for Best in Education
Along with that he
also get criticized because of its creator Salman Khan, lacks a formal
background or qualifications in pedalog. Statements
made in several videos have been questioned for their technical accuracy,
especially in the area of history. In response to these criticisms, the
organization has corrected errors in its videos, expanded its faculty and
formed a network of over 200 content experts
Khan Academy
positions itself as a supplement to in-class learning, with the ability to
improve the effectiveness of teachers by freeing them from traditional lectures
and giving them more time to tend to individual students' needs
